Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain WordPress-based websites for the client, ensuring high performance, security, and scalability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including designers, content creators, and other developers to implement website features and enhancements.
• Customize themes and plugins to meet specific project requirements, ensuring adherence to design guidelines and brand standards.
• Optimize website performance through efficient code, caching mechanisms, and other best practices.
• Troubleshoot and debug issues, ensuring timely resolution of technical problems.
• Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in WordPress development, recommending new tools and technologies to improve workflow and efficiency.
• Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
• Assist in website migrations, updates, and maintenance tasks as needed.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a WordPress Developer with a strong portfolio showcasing WordPress websites and custom themes/plugins developed.
• Proficiency in front-end technologies including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery.
• Experience with responsive design techniques and frameworks (eg, Bootstrap).
• In-depth knowledge of PHP and MySQL, with experience in customizing WordPress themes and plugins.
• Familiarity with version control systems such as Git, bitbucket.
• Solid understanding of web performance optimization techniques and SEO principles.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Nice to Have

• Experience with RESTful APIs and integrating third-party services.
• Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices.
• Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks/libraries such as React or Vue.js.
• Understanding of server configurations and hosting environments.
• Previous experience working in the news/media industry.
• Experience working in an Agile development environment.

Education

Bachelors degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
